Cheerful and bright, the lifted aromas of tangerine, Meyer lemon, yellow apple, pear, lemon verbena, wet slate, pink lemonade and fresh cut grass abound. Like the nose, the palate radiates with sunny flavors including Seville orange, lemon oil, lemon zest, grapefruit, lemon balm, orange oil, honeysuckle and a slight note of hazelnut. Long, lively and juicy on the finish, there’s a lovely tension and energy which compels another taste. Absolutely delicious!

The 2023 Chardonnay Heritage is a classic Hanzell wine. Bold and elusive, the 2023 is super complex and dynamic, with layers of ﬂavor that develop with time in the glass. Dried lemon peel, sage, mint, dried herbs, tangerine oil and chamomile infuse the 2023 with notable depth. Beams of acid support the long, clean ﬁnish. About 74% of the wine was done in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation and aged for nine months. A second portion, 26% of the wine, was fermented and aged in barrel with full malolactic fermentation and aged for nine months. The two base lots were then blended and aged another nine months in neutral wood.— Antonio Galloni

The balance, freshness and power here are impressive with gentle mineral aromas. Layers of lemon, grapefruit pith, salted nuts and yellow apple. The palate is medium-bodied with bright acidity and a textural mouthfeel, cut through with nervy acidity. Made from an average vine age of 40 years, fermented in 26% French oak and 74% stainless steel. — James Suckling
