Summary

The nose is bursting with bright, juicy, red fruit aromas of Bing cherry, pomegranate and wild raspberry alongside a beautiful rose perfume quality. All that lovely red fruit from the aromatics is there on the palate packed with blood orange, cranberry, Bergamot, tangerine, anise and pink peppercorn. Lively and pristine on the palate, the finish is balanced and incredibly long. Truly another stunning wine from our Ambassador’s 1953 Vineyard, which turned seventy years old in the 2023 vintage, and in our opinion just keeps getting better!

97 points | Vinous

The 2023 Pinot Noir Ambassador’s 1953 Vineyard is another stunning wine from Hanzell in this vintage. Deeply pitched spice notes, rose petal, mint and blood orange lead into a core of vibrant red-toned fruit. This elusive, dynamic Pinot Noir simply has it all. The layers of dimension here are just unreal. Time in the glass releases the wine’s inner perfume and sweetness.— Antonio Galloni

95 points | Wine Spectator

Fresh, silky and charming, this lets red currant and damson plum puree notes glide along, while potpourri, white tea, jasmine and balsam wood hints are seamlessly inlaid throughout. The finish is long and graceful. Approachable now but will develop.— James Molesworth

95 points | James Suckling

Wild red and black berries, cranberry, fresh herbs, wet stone, baking spice and ferrous earth with a mineral earthy undertone. The palate is luscious and textural, albeit tightly wound, with vibrant acidity and fine tannins, showing plenty of old vine character. Grown at 670 feet with 100% destemming from vines planted in 1953.— James Suckling
